Condolences to the Petner family. I was lucky to meet Steve through the WT women’s softball league. He was a great addition to our league and a fair ump. He brought a smile and a kind word for everyone each week. Steve spoke often of his family and it was easy to see how much he loved each of you. He will be missed for sure on the field on Thursdays! May your memories of him carry you through this most difficult time.

I was saddened to learn about Steve's departure. I have coached WTPR baseball and basketball for 10 years at several age groups and have always found Steve, "ref", "blue" to be fair and ALWAYS looking out for the youth. No one comes to a game to watch the officials but when you were there you realized he more than that. He was an official, mentor, parent, grandparent, coach and more than anything, a decent person. I was fortunate enough to have known him 32 minutes or 7 innings at a time. For those that had more, God bless you - you were lucky. We are all lucky to have known him

Steve was my favorite referee partner, who loved to joke around, and always had a smile on his face. Even when he refereed the teams that I coached, he always found a way to make everyone on the court laugh. He will be truly missed. As president of the WTPR program, I promise you that everyone will always know who he was and the type of man he was, as I will make his legacy known and always present.

So very sorry to hear the news . Stephen was a great brother, father, husband and Grandpop. God has him in his embrace and he is reunited with Uncle Al and Aunt Grace . We are all at a loss over the tragic loss and I just can’t find enough words to express my sorrow for your loss .

Steve was a wonderful man who coached my nephew years ago. My whole family just loved him and even though years had passed since he was my nephews coach, he would still stop to talk to my parents whenever running into him around town. My dad said “I’d stop and talk to Steve every time we saw each other in shop rite and before I knew it the ice cream in my shopping cart had totally melted” may he Rest In Peace.. such a kind person. I can’t imagine the pain of losing such a wonderful person.

very sad to hear about this! Steve was a great guy and was all over the youth fields, he loved working with the kids and he will be missed. My son was coached by Steve when he played youth football and I remember everytime Steve walked to the field he had a smile on his face! RIP STEVE!

Steve was one of the umpires for the Washington Twp women’s softball. He was such a funny, kind and encouraging man. We were always a losing team but we had the most fun and Steve never laughed at us but always with us! Always smiling. We will miss him. Such a terrible loss!
