Stanley M. Gura “Stas”
On November 5, 2023, of Washington Twp. Age 83. Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Makowski). Devoted father of Patricia Gaetano (Frank) and Deborah Granato (Louis). Loving grandfather of Frankie, III (Mackenzie), Nicholas, Christian, Lawson, and Delaney. Loved by many nieces and nephews.
Stanley “Stas” Gura was born February 4th, 1940. He was the youngest of twelve children & grew up in the Gray’s Ferry section of Philadelphia. On October 2nd, 1965 he married Patricia Makowski and they resided in Folcroft, PA for 10 years until moving to their forever home in Turnersville, NJ until his passing. In his early years, Stan worked at GE Space & Missile, Towne Volkswagen and F.C. Haab, Inc., where he worked until his retirement in 2013.
Stan loved being involved & helping people when he could! He was involved with the WTHS Band parents club, a member of the Elks Club, he was a Bingo caller (and apparently he was good luck because everyone LOVED when he called), but he had extreme pride in his position as usher at Holy Family Church. He was there religiously every week dressed in a suit to fulfill his duties.
Stan enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, gardening, fishing, going to concerts with his wife, playing the scratch-off lottery & taking the occasional trip to Atlantic City to play the slots. In addition, he loved the mummers & ALL PHILADELPHIA sports teams, and over the years attended many games for every sport. But nothing compared to his beloved Phillies. In his younger years he never missed a game, whether it be in person or on television. In his later years he watched the games & discussed his love (& disgust) with his daughters & grandchildren. He will be missed!
Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Monday 9:30-11:00 AM at the Church of The Holy Family, 226 Hurffville Road, Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:15 AM. Interment, Holy Cross Cemetery, Yeadon, PA.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Stan’s memory may be made to Church of The Holy Family, 226 Hurffville Road, Sewell, NJ 08080.
