Ruth Palen
(nee Vale) On September 21, 2022 of Washington Twp. Age 71. Beloved wife of Robert C. Devoted mother of Robert, Brian and Karl Palen (Trish).
Loving grandmother of Bobby Jr., Ryan, Mikayla, Caleigh, Madison, Ava and Charlie. Proud great-grandmother of Tyler, Ryan Jr., Perseus and Dominic Jr. Dear sister of Darlene Starkey, Nancy Supplee, Thomas Vale and the late Linda Vale.
Ruth was born in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, PA. She raised her three sons in Olney, before moving to Washington Township, NJ. around 2007.
She was a woman of many roles; A loving wife, sister, aunt, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who had a great sense of humor with just the right amount of sass.
Her biggest joy in life was spending time with those she loved dearly; Her grandkids, great-grandkids, her three sons, friends, family, and her husband, who will always be her “Sunshine”.
Ruth loved to spend time with her loved ones, and especially adored sleepovers, and pool hangouts with her grand & great grand-children. Some other favorites were trips to the cabin with her closest friends to kick off every summer; Vacations to Ocean City Maryland; Walking, and of course, shopping the boardwalks of the Jersey Shore, as well as the outlet malls where she would never skip a stop at her favorite place, Sketchers. Driving fast on the AC Expressway she would say she felt the need to speed…from the passenger’s seat, of course. In the summer, she loved to relax in the sun, float in the pool, check out a carnival or two, and go to car shows with her Sunshine, and her son, Brian. If there was a DJ’d event, you could almost always bet that she would be requesting her favorite song, Run Around Sue, so that she could dance to it.
She had a fondness for owl photos and figurines, Native American art, and a bit of an obsession with Phillies bobbleheads. She rarely missed watching the Phillies games or a professional wrestling show on TV. Superheroes, and Transformers were some of her favorite movies. You could usually catch her under a thick fluffy blanket, dressed in fleece PJs and “wippers” (AKA slippers) no matter how hot it was outside, snacking on one of her favorites: m&ms, “only half” of a Hershey bar, or a sugar-free Popsicle.
She will be missed dearly but will be remembered fondly. Her memory will live on through each of those whose lives she has touched.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation Tuesday 6:30-8:00 PM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral service 8:00 PM. Guests may consider honoring Ruth by wearing something purple as it was her favorite color.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth’s memory may be made to the Susan G. Komen Foundation https://www.komen.org/
