Norton G. Davis, Sr.
On September 6, 2019 of Washington Twp. Age 88. Beloved husband of Lorraine M. (nee Kelleher). Devoted father of PattiAnne Keeley (the late Dennis), Norton G. Davis, Jr. (Donna), Raymond Davis (Anne), Candace Davis, Brian Newman (Tara), Michael Newman (Lisa) and Scott Newman (Lori). Loving grandfather of Melissa, Zach, Mandi, Frankie, Michael, Samuel, Christopher, Isabella, Jack and Padraig. Proud great-grandfather of Avery and Ally.
Norton graduated from Collingswood High School in 1949. He served in the United States Navy from 1949 to 1954. Mr. Davis was a Gloucester Township Police Officer from 1960 to 1986 where he retired as Deputy Chief. After retiring from the Police Force, He worked at St. John of Gods School. He was a substitute school Teacher thru his life.
He was a member of the Jaycee’s Rotary, Babe Ruth Umpire Association, Little League Umpire in Chief for Glendora, Little League, served on the Recreational Committee in Glendora, Little League Umpire Association Somerdale, Supervisor of Safety Patrols for 6 towns in Camden County.
Mr. Davis was a member of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, Camden County Detective Association, Delegate of the Fraternal Order of Police, also a member of the Fraternal Order of Police Lodge #9. In 1965, he was Chosen Jaycee’s Citizen of the Year. (It was one proud moment in his life.) Mr. Davis was also a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He loved the Philadelphia Eagles and loved spending time in the Poconos. In his later years, he spent half his time in Melbourne Beach, Florida where he owned a home. Norton G. Davis loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Thursday 7:00-9:00 PM and Friday 9:15-10:15 am at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 am at the church of the Holy Family, Washington Twp. Entombment, St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Norton’s memory may be made to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 150 E. 9th Ave. Runnemede, NJ 08078.
