Marie Virginia McLeod “Ginger”
On September 27, 2023 of Sewell, NJ. Age 90. Dear sister of the late Thomas D. McLeod, Jr. (the late Linda). Beloved aunt of Cami Fenton (Joseph), Patrick McLeod, Danny McLeod, Molly Ridgway (Glen), Rustin Gallagher (Victoria), Alan McLeod (Erica), Catherine Grason (Richard), and the late Kathleen McLeod. Great Aunt to 22 nieces and nephews and growing list of great-great nieces and nephews.
Born in Montclair, New Jersey, Virginia and her brother Tom spent much of their childhood in Baltimore, Maryland with their mother, Marie Catherine, and her maternal grandparents, Cate and John Henry Houchens, while her father, Dr. Thomas Donald McLeod, served as a dentist in the Navy during WWII. She returned to New Jersey for high school and to attend Caldwell College (for which she had great affection) before starting her career as an editor for Nabisco. She retired to Washington Township near family, where she was active in the Friends of the Library, the Red Hat Society, and the Women’s Club, and served as a reader at Holy Family Parish. She loved reading books, playing cards, classic music, movies, and traveling, especially with her late cousin Judy McLeod with whom she spent many winters in Mexico enjoying the mountains and margaritas. She was a devoted and involved Aunt in the lives of her many nieces and nephews, always present for milestones, birthdays and holidays. She was a dear friend to her late sister-in-law, Linda, who supported and loved her immensely. Linda was her sidekick, and they enjoyed many family holidays, vacations, and V.O. Manhattans together (dry vermouth with a twist), confusing bartenders throughout the greater Philadelphia area. She will be remembered as a smart, loyal, witty, faithful and loving woman in the lives of all who knew her, especially her family.
Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation Saturday, January 13th 10:30 – 11:30 AM at The Church of The Holy Family, 226 Hurffville Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:30 AM. Interment St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Chews Landing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Caldwell University (formerly Caldwell College).
