Ed was born and raised in the Bridesburg section of Philadelphia, surrounded by his loving family and enjoyed playing sports in community. While serving in the Army and stationed in Hawaii, he met the love of his life, Patricia. They settled in the Wissinoming area of Northeast Philadelphia and had four children. He served as a police officer for the City of Philadelphia for 20 years and was an active member/delegate of FOP Lodge #5. He was later employed by the School District of Philadelphia until his retirement in 1999. Ed relocated to the Parke Place community in Sewell, NJ to enjoy his retirement years. These years were spent meeting new friends, traveling and trying new activities.
Ed had many passions in life, but number one was spending time with his growing family especially his cherished grandchildren. He relaxed by spending his summers at the Jersey shore. He enjoyed watching his favorite Philadelphia sports teams, the Phillies and Eagles.
His contagious laughter and easygoing ways will be missed by all who knew him. He was always quick to offer a seat at the table or a bite to eat when you entered his home. He never had a bad word to say about anyone and most people described him as a sweet guy! He was especially proud of his Irish heritage and cherished the large McGrody family reunions that brought everyone together. He was loved by so many and will be truly missed.
Edward’s life will be honored and remembered privately by his family due to the health crisis of COVID-19.
Edward’s life will be celebrated with family and friends at a later date.
