Dr. Bruce I. Weiner
Bruce quietly passed on Saturday, June 2, 2018, surrounded by the love of his wife, children and family members. Bruce will lovingly be remembered by his wife, Marie J. (nee DiMauro) and his children, Mindie Weiner, Renee (Gomberg), Erica (Edwards), and Jason Weiner. He will also be fondly remembered by his loving grandchildren, Austin (Gomberg), Mattie (Wentz), Emily (Gomberg), Gianna (Edwards), Ariah (Gomberg), and Tyler (Edwards).
Bruce was born January 15, 1946 in Philadelphia and grew up in Levittown, PA. After graduating from Woodrow Wilson High school in 1963, Bruce attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy. He graduated in 1969, on the Dean’s list, with a degree in Pharmacy. He then continued with his medical education for an additional year to receive his doctorate in Pharmacy. Bruce worked as a pharmacist for four years while he attended the Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine. He then performed his internship in podiatry and residency in podiatric surgical medicine at St. Luke’s Medical Center under the mentorship of the prestigious Dr. Giuffre. Dr. Weiner opened his first practice on Thompson Street in Philadelphia in 1974. Shortly after opening his practice, he joined forces with Dr. Katz. Dr. Weiner and Dr. Katz then bought the Thompson St. building where they expanded it to contain medical offices and a pharmacy which continued to serve the community for the rest of his carrier. In 1976, he joined the Philadelphia VA Medical Center as Chief of Podiatric Medicine, a position created for him, and later began teaching fourth-year medical residents. In 1977, he won the Outstanding Young Men of America Award, a most impressive and distinguished recognition. In 1981, he opened a second practice in Chester, PA, which he also kept throughout his career.
Bruce has had a long and wonderful career in the service of those in need where he was loved and valued by his patients. He was a wise man with a big heart. He was also known as one of the few doctors that still provided house calls to his patients with acute mobility concerns.
