Bob Krantweiss left a message on December 17, 2012:
Dennis was a wonderful teacher and colleague. He impacted the lives of countless children and fellow educators. When I think of him, words and phrases like "brilliant speaker', "strong leader", "laughter and joy" and of course "drama club" come to my mind. There was never a room he enterred that he didn't brighten. He changed the whole tone of the Middle School from the moment he came. He was a man who really made a dffference! Janet and Erica ( and the rest of his family) need know that I share your sorrow. The world is a better place because Dennis was here! Bob Krantweiss
Molly Crellin left a message on December 19, 2012:
I am so sorry not to be there today, or last night. My heart is there with you, but I could not get away from work. Mr Martell was a very special man to me. He turned the quiet, shy 6th grader I was, into the self-assured woman I am today. I would never be a teacher today without his help. He meant a lot to me. The world has lost a great man. -Molly Saghirian Crellin

Janet, Erica, Ken and family, Dennis was an amazing man. He helped to mold many young lives as a teacher and director. All those who were part of the Great Pretenders Drama club at Chestnut Ridge Middle School will never forget all the wonderful memories that he gave them. I was happy to work with him during my daughters middle school years helping him with costuming. It was amazing to see his influence on these children, which has followed them through their lives. Our condolences to all of you. Carol Saghirian

I will ALWAYS fondly remember the passion and enthusiasm with which Dennis approached everything, but particularly his many drama productions at Chestnut Ridge Middle School. I especially am grateful to have collaborated with him on many musicals, especially the one we wrote together, a setting of the story of Cinderella.
Erica Rosenstiehl (Martell) left a message on December 16, 2012:
The last memory I have of my Dad is from last Saturday when I made his favorite nachos for dinner and he ran through my kitchen, pushing Ken out of the way, so he could get first "dibs" on them fresh from the oven. We laughed so hard I couldn't even scoop out a serving. I love you Daddy, for all the laughter you brought into my life and my home. Forever, Your Little Girl! XOXOXOX

Pat Davis left a message on December 17, 2012:
I can not properly express the respect and admiration that I have for Mr. Martell. I along with my friends who were his students in middle school and high school have often commented, that we learned more about life and hard work from his instruction and influence than we have in any of our subsequent academic or professional experiences since. My time spent working for Mr. Martell in the Great Pretenders Drama Club is amongst the best times in my life. It was a privilige to be his student. My condolences to the Martell family. Pat Davis
Chris Basile left a message on December 18, 2012:
My prayers are with Janet & Erica. Dennis is a great man, mentor and teacher. I am where I am today mostly in part to him. He was my eighth grade teacher and we spent many years in drama and tech crew. The haunted houses with the Jaycees were the most memorable. Dennis you will be missed by many but never forgotten. How prophetic that our dear friend Dennis passed on the same day as the children in Connecticut. It was like he was called out of retirement for a bigger assignment above. Bruce and Maureen Mercogliano
