Sterling
Byron G., III “Ron”
On August 29, 2016 of Newfield. Age 60. Beloved husband of Patricia (nee Vollmer). Devoted father of Byron G., IV, Heather Sterling (Jason Hardy) and Dorthea “Thea” Sterling. Loving son of Byron G., Jr and the late Dorthe. Loving pop-pop of Evan, Aiden, Garhett, Liam and Adelynn. Dear brother of Charles, William and Elizabeth Sterling.
Ron was born and raised in Naples, NY. There he worked until 1975 when he joined the United States Army. He proudly served for twenty-two years, during that time he was awarded with the Army Service Ribbon, the National Defense Service Medal, three Army Commendation Medals , the Army Achievement Medal, The Meritorious Service Medal, five Army Good Conduct Medals, and two Overseas Service Ribbons. After retiring in 1992 due to disability, Ron continued serving his country by advocating for disabled and homeless veterans.
As a dedicated man, Ron was able to commit himself not only to the Army but to his wife and family. He, along with his wife Patricia who he loved dearly, played a pivotal role in the character development of their three children. Ron ensured he supported diverse activities for them from wrestling to theater.
Continuing his support, in 2010 Ron and his wife relocated from the Finger Lakes in N.Y to N.J in order to stay close to an ever-growing family which they have been surrounded by since. Ron was a soldier and an advocate, a fighter and a motivator, he was a loving husband, a ‘Pop’, and a Pop-pop. Ultimately he was a man with dedication who received what he lovingly gave to us. He will be missed.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his visitation Saturday 9:00-11:00 AM at St. Mary’s Church/Our Lady of Blessed Sacrament Parish, 253 Old Dutch Mill Rd., Malaga. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM. Interment, Gloucester County Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
