Bernard J. Severino, “Bernie”. On July 23, 2009, of Woodbury Heights. Age 73. Survived by spouse, Elizabeth nee Orsini, son, John Natasha, daughter Sandra Phliponeau Olivier, grandsons Michael, Brandon, Eric, Nicholas, Christian, and granddaughter Sophia. Brother to Ann Novelli John and the late Rosemarie and Diane. Son to Bernard and Anna nee Fusco. Brother-in-law of Tony and Joe. Also survived by his dear dog, Delilah.
Bernie was honorably discharge from the United States Army, serving in the 6th Infantry Division in Fort Hood Texas on active duty from November 16, 1958 to November 17, 1960. He retired from the United States Navy Yard, where he was a Plastics Fabricators Supervisor from 1967 to May 1993.
A devoted, loving husband to his wife and best friend, Betty, for 48 years; a beautiful romance that has been an example of an enduring, loving marriage to his children, grandchildren and everyone who knew the two of them. A loving father whose world revolved around his family; Bernie’s tremendous work ethics coupled with his unselfish love and support to his children has given John and Sandra the ability to raise their own families with strong values that will ripple into future generations.
As a dedicated grandfather, he told endless stories of his time spent in the Army, growing up in the “city” and raising his own children. He always took the time to mend a toy, throw a baseball, play a game or just sit quietly to watch a movie. He especially enjoyed watching a Flyers game with his grandsons.
Bernie enjoyed monthly trips to the casinos, discussing politics, shopping, gardening, cheering on the Flyers, woodworking, reading and watching military programs. He lived each day to the fullest.
He will be dearly missed by his family and friends and remembered always by the cherished life he lived.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his viewing Monday 9:00-11:00 am at the EGIZI FUNERAL HOME, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Funeral Service 11:00 am at the funeral home. Interment Gloucester County Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
