Mary Ellen Anderson

(nee Bechtel) On March 3, 2025, of Washington Twp. Age 80. Devoted mother of David Anderson (Mary Beth) and Erin Anderson. Loving grandmother of Connor, Michael, Colin, and Maureen. Dear sister of the late Nancy Bechtel.

Mary Ellen grew up in New Castle, PA. After graduating from high school, she attended Jameson School of Nursing. She then joined the U.S. Navy as an officer, and she helped care for wounded American soldiers when they returned from the Vietnam War. She was very proud of her time in the Navy, and she was grateful to have been honored at a ceremony in Washington Township for local veterans.

Mary Ellen worked as a nurse manager at Kennedy Memorial Hospital in Stratford, NJ for many years. More than anything, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She truly loved being a grandmother and she was very proud of all her grandchildren. Birthdays, holidays, sporting events, concerts-she loved all of it. Being a mother was also one of her biggest joys in life.

Some more things she loved were her cat, Casey, celebrating her Irish heritage, and avidly following college basketball. Mary Ellen was strong, generous, compassionate, kind-hearted, and funny.  There are no words to describe how much she will be missed.

Family and friends are invited to attend her visitation Saturday, March 8^th 8:45 – 10:15 AM at the Egizi Funeral Home, 119 Ganttown Rd., Washington Twp. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM at Mary, Mother of Mercy Parish/Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 500 Greentree Rd. Glassboro. Interment Gloucester County Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery, Williamstown.
